Locations and Activities
Porto by day and night
There is so much to explore and photograph in Porto, from early in the morning to late at night. Some key spots will include:
Mercado do Bolhão, Porto’s famous traditional market for a morning visit to capture vibrant displays of fresh produce, local fishmongers, and charming elderly vendors interacting with customers.
Livraria Lello, one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, also a morning visit before the crowds. The stunning red staircase and stained-glass ceiling make for striking photos. We’ll carry on wandering through the lesser-known Escadas dos Guindais or the small alleys around Vitória, where you’ll find locals hanging laundry against colorful, rustic facades—great for character-filled street photography.
São Bento Station, to capture the light filtering through the windows onto the iconic blue-and-white azulejo tile murals depicting Portugal’s history.
Rua das Flores for charming street photography with its pastel-colored buildings, lively cafés, and elegant iron balconies.
Clérigos Tower where we can climb to the top for panoramic shots of Porto.
Miragaia neighborhood, one of Porto’s most underrated districts, filled with old fishermen’s houses, colorful facades, and hidden alleyways.
Alfândega do Porto, a historic customs house turned museum, with unique architectural details and industrial textures that contrast with Porto’s older buildings.
Porto’s Ribeira district, with its colourful houses and riverfront charm, and Cais de Ribeira to capture Porto’s postcard-perfect views along the Douro River, with rabelo boats and the iron arches of the Dom Luís I Bridge.
Top section of Dom Luís I Bridge, Jardim do Morro and Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar, ideal spots for photographing the cityscape with warm late afternoon light.
Cais de Gaia and Espaco Porto Cruz Terrace for night shots of Porto’s skyline, a classic postcard view, with the lights from the wine cellars reflecting on the Douro River.
For your taste buds
Included in the price of the trip, we are arranging for our small group to join one of the best, oldest and most authentic food and wine tours for a culinary experience that allows us to experience no less than 6 family-run tasting locations over 3.5 hours. This will be hosted and guided in English by a passionate Porto native who will help us travel back in time and experience how Porto’s past is influencing its future in terms of local cuisine as well as its architecture and culture.
In addition to the food tour, we have mapped a number of coffee, lunch and dinner stops that we will include in our daily schedule (these are not included in the cost but we are happy to make reservations for our group), providing not only recommended eateries but also picturesque settings. We will be able to take into account your dietary requirements so please rest assured that you will still be able to benefit from a great experience.
Day trip to Douro Valley
Also included in the price of our trip we will arrange for our small group to join one of the best tours to the Douro Valley. This will include: a visit to the small town of Amarante, rich in cultural, historical and religious legacy; breathtaking views from São Leonardo da Galafura; lunch in a scenic setting; a visit to one of the most important Wine Estates in the Douro including a wine tasting experience; a 45-minute Douro river cruise, while observing the imposing views of Pinhão.

Absolutely not. Feel free to bring your favourite tool for capturing images or video as you wish, be it a smartphone or field camera! We will advise everyone depending on their preferences, from beginners to advanced photography enthusiasts, before the trip.
-
It is reasonable to assume that there will be some walking involved at every location. But our explorations will be slow and allow sufficient time to take in our surroundings and capture them - so everything will be at a reasonable pace.
-
Not at all. We are very experienced in working with a mix of complete beginners as well as technically and creatively accomplished photographers, ensuring that everyone gets a lot out of the experience.
-
Just let us know what is required and we will arrange something to suit your needs for the meals that are included or organised by us. Portuguese cuisine is very diverse so you will still be able to enjoy some traditional cuisine if you're a pescatarian or a vegetarian for example.
